Oct 8, 2011 | 6 comments

As announced before on this blog, DC Comics is releasing a digital comic called Beyond the Fringe. The first chapter came out on september 21st, and the second chapter, announced to be released on october 12th is actually available to purchase since yesterday, october 7th. Whereas the first chapter is centered about Peter’s adventures with the Machine, chapter B deals with both Peter and Olivia meeting as teenagers. I personally enjoyed reading about our heroes adventures. Have you?

Have you read this yet? I just did, but I’m so confused, I don’t really understand what happened at the very end.

The following reply contains contents of Chapter B of Beyond the Fringe. I’d advise you not to read this reply until you’ve read the comic.

Yes, I did read it. As I understand it, while Walter invented a device to look at an alternate universe, he couldn’t find a way to cross over. Peter, seeing his father is obsessed by this and only this, tries to catch his father’s interest (and love) finds a way to cross over. But Walter is too focused on his work to even look at Peter’s paper. Peter, seeing his alternate is loved and listened by his father, wants to cross over. Only, him meeting Olivia gives him a reason to stay : to make his own life here, instead of stealing his double’s. So in the evening Peter goes back to Olivia, and Walter, looking for his son, find Peter’s paper about crossing over. In the end, Peter wins : he found a reason to stay and live his life, and Walter is finally reading his paper (and will probably start to focus on his son).

I think it’s a great parallel to the show : Peter was a runaway, until Olivia gave him a reason to stay (and to come back, in the end of season 2), and Peter never interacted with Walter until they started to work together as scientists. But that’s only my humble opinion of this chapter.

Where were you able to download the comic from? I tried the DC Comic app and was unable to find it. I have chapter A already.

Thank you so much for the link. I just finished reading the chapter. All I can say is wow! I loved the painting that Peter was looking at- reference to things from the past. I have more questions from other observations that I hope will get answered in future chapters. Thanks again.
