The Fringe Podcast Summer Rewatch Episode 15

Sep 2, 2012 | 1 comment

In this episode of The Fringe Podcast we continue our summer rewatch series with the Fringe season 4 episodes, “And Those We’ve Left Behind,” “Wallflower,” “Back to Where You’ve Never Been,” Enemy of My Enemy,” and “Forced Perspective.” Joined by Michelle and John, we discuss the Observers and how this new timeline might effect their overall plan, the differenct character growth and nuances of Peter, Walternate, Walter, Elizabeth and Nina, and we talk about some of the clues that we originally missed that reaveal Peter is where is should have been all along. We also read a very insightful email we received from Joey that discusses the Observers plan, how their plan effects each universe, and how September has been working to avoid the Observer invasion from season 1. Send in your feedback and theories to 304-837-2278 or feedback@thefringepodcast.com.

Really enjoying the podcasts. Though I will be glad when they are back on Sunday afternoons and I can sometimes join in live with the chat.

Anyway, I thought of something while you were discussing “Forced Perspective” and emailed to the Feedback; yet, it just occurred to me to perhaps post here. It was simply my thoughts in regards to the confusion you all discussed regarding The Machine and the lack of Peter integration. Here goes…

Well, when the episode first aired and even still now when I recently rewatched it, I thought all the information regarding the machine was simply presumption on Peter’s part. By that I mean – Since Peter presumes that he is not home and needs to go home via the machine, since he presumes didn’t/doesn’t exist in the current universe, then Peter presumes that the machine has no interface with him. Peter even says that Walter has to create an interface mechanism as he can interact with the machine in his universe, yet since he is not suppose to exist in the current universe the machine would not work/recognise him. We never see anything that shows an attempt to try the machine first to see if it will interface with Peter. To me, the premise is all based on a presumption by Peter (because he thinks he is in the wrong place) and Walter simply goes along with this theory as he also presumes that this Peter is from a different universe.

Does that make any sense? Maybe, maybe not. Just thought I’d drop my two cents worth in as there was so much discussion on the podcast. Thanks!
