Things to do in Oklahoma City

If you’re on foot, there are several things to do in the downtown OKC area. The hotel is just one block west of Bricktown. Bricktown is our historical district and has lots of shops and restaurants. There is a water taxi and a movie theater as well.

If you enjoy arts and culture, we have a few other things within walking distance. The Oklahoma City National Memorial is nearby. There is an outdoor memorial and reflection pool that is free, and a museum that charges an admission fee. http://www.oklahomacitynationalmemorial.org/

The Myriad Botanical Gardens are also just a couple of blocks away. This is a really nice outdoor park. It also has a paid area to go in and enjoy a foliage from all around the world. There is an outdoor ice skating rink that is adjacent to it that is open through February. http://www.myriadgardens.org/

A bit further away, but still within walking distance, is the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. Right now they are featuring artwork from American artists from 1910-1960. http://www.okcmoa.com/

If you have a car, there is the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. It’s not far from downtown OKC, but not nearly close enough to walk. http://www.nationalcowboymuseum.org/

Hopefully this gives everyone some good ideas! See you soon!!

So, I purchased a ticket through PayPal as well, but I was not automatically redirected to a registration page. I also was wondering what the promo code for the hotel was. My PayPal email should be the same as the one listed above. I’m somewhat new to the Fringe Podcast but not to Fringe. I haven’t quite succeeded yet in turning friends over to Fringe so I’m super excited to nerd out with all of you.

    Hey Darrell,

I was noticing some confusing stuff on TripAdvisor about parking around the hotel.

Some people seem to recommend parking at the Convention Center and walking across the skybridge to get to the hotel since there is no onsite parking for the hotel.

I would really appreciate some extra specific advice on the parking situation there.

    Thanks!

I am so excited for this!! Even though I discovered it late in the game (last season), a HUGE part of enjoying this show for me has been being in the chatroom on Friday nights and then listening to Darrell and Clint dissect the episode, and then listening to all the folks leaving feedback.

See you all in OKC on January 18th!!

Well it looks like I’ll be attending this once-in-a-lifetime event! Friday, one night only, for me.

For dirac-John, it looks like the hotel has valet parking for $45, but the self park is two blocks away for only $5.

No one’s told me yet where I can park a zeppelin.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Wait…. so I click on that link to the Earl’s Rib Palace and I see a pig with a bib and a fork and spoon. Is that a cannibal pig? Looking at the menu and comparing it to their mascot is kinda disturbing if you think about it (which is something I obviously just did too much of).

Hey, Darrell & Clint & fellow Fringies,

Have fun at the party! I have looked at all options to come to OKC, but I would need a “transporter” to make it happen. I have to work on the morning of January 18, finishing at 12 noon. Cancelling my clinic (I’m a doctor… ;D) is not an option. Then all flght options to get to OKC from Vancouver would take 6 to 9 hours including 1 or 2 plane transfers to do it, not including the two hours I would have to be at the Vancouver airport before an international flight! I would arrive at OKC airport at 10 pm your time at the earliest.

I’ll be with you online when you Podcast the Party live. I’ll be lifting a glass of red wine to you all!

So sorry for the people who can’t make it to OKC.

I wish we could do something like a gigantic Google hangout on a big screen projector, so people could virtually come and go as they please.

But I think there are some re-broadcast rights problems like the guys said.

You never know though, Darrell and Clint are pretty clever.

At a minimum I’d guess we’ll all be huddled in a frigid temp room in the middle of a snow storm hanging off the Convention center WiFi in the Chatroom — surrounded by the warmth of good company.

Funny the mental picture sounds like the opening scenes of a Fringe episode in Woochester or Baahston or Havaard. All we need a a quirky murder mystery, a White Tulip and a calling card at the scene with the initials — DRJ

It’ll be like the best of times and we’ll all be together. Just like we have for the last five years one more time.

      Hey Chip, and Everyone,

I plan to be in town early Friday.

I think it would be cool to meet up at some landmark, talk about lunch and go do things for the rest of the day til we meet up with Darell and Clint.

I’m driving into OKC from South Texas by myself, so I’ll have my car. I wouldn’t mind driving a few people around, but sounds like there’s lots we can do just stretching our legs. Unless its really cold I’m more of a hiker and biker kinda guy. But really I’m flexible either way.

      Also, if your so inclined.

I might suggest everyone traveling or planning to meet up, signup for a Gravatar and upload a mugshot of themselves. (It’d also be cool to see peoples pic who can’t attend just to get to know them a little better.)

      https://en.gravatar.com/site/signup/

A Gravatar is a picture that’s associated with an email address and gets automatically referred to by a blog. So when you post a message and enter in your email address it knows how to go fetch your picture and put it next to your blog posting.

It takes a little time to turn all those silhouetted ‘Mystery man’ images into your image, but it eventually gets around to it.

Hello all. I wish you a blast at the party. I actually considered going, yet figured I could not take off the time from work. Little did I know that as of now I am out of work the last three months – ugh. Anyway, though I have the time available I am holding tight to my cash and am hoping something comes up soon.

I think it will be a great time and I wish I could be there to meet some of you I have gotten to “know” via the chat (serenityinall) and on twitter. I’ll definitely be in the live chat that night! Have fun!

I won’t get to tell you in person but THANK YOU SO MUCH to Darrell and Clint for the podcast and how much you have enhanced my enjoyment of the show.

Thank you to all the community contributors because you played a big part in that “enjoyment enhancing” as well. But again, it couldn’t have happened without Darrell and Clint putting all this together. I hope it is an fantastic time.

It’s probably for the best. I can be pretty awkward socially and I can pretty much guarantee I will be bawling at some point. : )

Namaste! (or whatever the Fringe equivalent is…)

PS – For out of towners, Earl’s is really good. I’ve been many time. Fuzzy’s Tacos on the Bricktown Canal are pretty good too. I had the Nachos. They were huge and mucho tasty. It can get pretty busy though.

    Hey everybody,

That was fantastic! It was more than I had hoped for, and there were a lot of people making incredible sacrifices to attend.

Sincerely, Thank You – Darrell and Clint

You were gracious hosts and true leaders showing us around your beautiful city.

And your wives were awesome too, very kind and helpful to everyone.

For those who couldn’t attend you should know lots of people took pictures and some video and there will be some coordinated effort to make it available. People just need a little time to decompress after all the travel and fun.

And if there is one thing I learned from this trip.. its (I should have) attended the whole thing, both nights.. everyone I talked to had a Blast the night before in Sam Weiss’s bowling alley many people really bonded that night.

    Unfortunately I could not.

There was so much discussion and pondering about expectations and then the watching and afterwards more discussion into the wee hours of the morning. A lot of us stayed up at least until 2 am Saturday morning… with Darrell.. with a head cold.. he really is a great guy if you ever get a chance to meet him.

I wish I could write a really really long blog about all the things that occurred — so many special moments and characters and just nice people.

One observation I did notice — universally — was we were all so happy to meet and be around people we know, but just met — but then someone would start talking fringe — and all the awkward silences and brevity would melt away. And in an instant people were theorizing, elaborating, throwing out competing theories and chatting.

It felt like going home to a family you haven’t seen in a really long time.

It was breath taking.. and heart breaking.. when it finally had to end.

Just don’t forget the podcasts coming up.. there is no podcast this weekend because Clint has to work (that’s a convenient reason.. but we all needed time to travel and collect our thoughts). And then things will be back to normal for at least one more podcasting and chatroom session. So watch for the dates.

And to ALL the lurkers.. wow you out number us with handles in the chatroom all.. thanks for coming to the Party.. thanks for being there too.

.. now i have to go find some kleenex.. got something in my eye.
