The Fringe Podcast Episode 511-Feedback For An Origin Story

Nov 7, 2012 | 6 comments

In episode 511 of The Fringe Podcast we share some of the listener feedback we receive for the Frige season 5 episode, “An Origin Story.” We hear from some listeners who are unfulfilled by the season, and others who are loving each episode more as the season progresses. We discuss possible outcomes for the series finale and whether or not we’ll figure out what will happen or if the writers will surprise us with something even better. We hear various thoughts on the death of Etta, Peter’s decision to put the Observer tech into his head, and if Peter has now become the first Observer.

We received a LOT of amazing feedback for this episode, much of it from first time callers or contributors! Thanks to EVERYONE that sent in feedback for this episode.

Can you check your Podcast Award link? It didn’t work when I clicked. However, I did vote via http://podcastawards.com/

(Fill in the blank)_of_Pi and I were discussing Fringe events (as always). Time to vote for The Fringe Podcast.

If you get to speak Wyman again, could you ask him why he ruined a great character Olivia Dunham ?
He turned her into a Pacey girl that has to look up to God Peter.
If they wanted to let Olivia get in touch with her emotions, do something else, like anger with Walter and Peter.

Peter has been lying to her so often, every time Olivia has to tell him she loves him she he humiliated her,
and then she has to save him again.

Why on eart is Olivia with Peter?

And the Observer storyline is another round of Olivia being humiliated by lying Peter, and she has to be good to him and save him, becaus you know only father losing their child is pain,

mothers they are there to take care of them.

Well they had God Peter in S3, Jesus Peter in S4, why not the rest as well.

What really has shocked me on Fringe:

Never condemning Walter for his use of children for his egotrip ,
Never comdemning Walter for what he caused Over There,

It is all glossed over with the line> the love for his son, well the Nazis had that as well.

Now we will get the same, Peter will be lying to Olivia, Olivia will have to save him and forgive him, and we will be told that his love for Etta is a good excuse for probably killing innocent people.

BTW With ruining Olivia for the Peter and Olivia story I mean that Olivia has been eroded, she could have had another storyline like do soemthing with her backstory and being angry with Walter.

Anna Torv is awesome , she has kept Olivia alive and high, but what a task if you have that little material.
I think that Anna will look back at Fringe and think that all by all the Over There episodes were the ones that she had the material she deserves and should be gettin all the time as lead.

    Final note:

    My wishes for the rest:
-Olivia hearing from the Oracle we will get (not so much spoiler was in the news) taht she is the One, and that her reamrks in episode 3 about being programmed for that will be confirmed,
This will push Olivia in a black hole, and will have her dealing with the past and role she has to play an accept that she is The Dove.
Olivia must be angry with Walter, be angry with Peter.

With that I hope she will leave Walter and Peter , for them to realize what they are, and for once have them do an effort for Olivia.

(My fear I already said, Olivia being the caring and forgiving mum)

So not sure if this theory has been thrown out there or not, but I had a thought that perhaps it is Peter who becomes the leader of the good guy observers….

That theory might pull holes in the other theory that September is the child from Inner Child. But it could have been Peter that sent the child to the past.

Then another theory I have (and this is really out there, I gotta admit) is the reason that Young Etta disappeared that day at the park is because September swooped in and saved her from some dastardly end. Or perhaps we’ll see Peter or Olivia go back in time and save her.

Oh the time loops and paradoxes this show can put our brains too!! 🙂

Love the podcast, love the show!

    Viva la Fringe,
    Mary

Here in Brooklyn, so was a week behind.

Just listened to your production for the Origin Story after having watched it last night. One thing you didn’t address which definitely skewed the way I saw Peter’s transformation was the title of the episode. Now granted, I’m benefiting from the retrospect of also having just watched Through the Looking Glass, but it was pretty clear to me that Peter taking the observer tech into himself must have something to do with the “origin” of the observers…

…or at least some faction of the observers. I’ve been toying with the idea that, in the same way that the redverse from earlier seasons had both authentic redversers and tech-created shape-shifters who LOOKED like humans, the future contains authentic evolutionarily developed observers (exemplified by the “month” observers, susceptible to emotion, sympathetic with the contemporary humans) and a tech-created army of quasi-observers with emotion eradicated. My impulse is that there is, in the future, some conflict b/w the two, with the evolved observers (evolved possibly from the empath-boy) few in number but whose mission is to check the onslaught of the more numerous tech-observers (created by W. Bell from the tech Peter implanted into himself).

Not sure we have enough info to hypothesize how this will all spin out, but I think the lack of observer females, and the “boy” empath-observer are going to be central).

The more I think about it though, the more Peter’s transformation and the fact the episode was called “An Origin Story” is the key to understanding where this is going.

If you could, I’d appreciate you addressing this issue in the next podcast as I wasn’t able to post this until now.

Love your show and I’ve been so appreciative of the fact that the best fan podcast out there happens to coincide with my favorite show.

    Thanks,
    Bobby from Brooklyn

    GUESS

The WAY to kill the Observers and or force them to go away forever WILL kill or push away NEW Peter.

Oliva and Walter will know that it will kill Peter or separate them but do what has to be done for the rest of the world.

    agree or disagree?
